Ultra high R. Textures

Do you guys also play with the ultra high resolution textures? Is it possible to play online with it?
I have downloaded it but did not look into it yet and dont know if its difficult to install.

Yes, I switched my install to the HD textures when I started taking screenshots for UTStats. You can use them online also and the latest version 3.5(.1) have been whitelisted in ACE. Just to be safe you might want to back up your install folder before installing so you can revert the changes if you get any problems.

For anyone else following, here is where you can get the HD textures (make sure to get the UT99 ones if updating UT):

Here is a video showing how to install the HD textures: (starting at 11:33 in case the start time I linked doesn't work) It's easy to do but is nice to see it done before hand.

There are other possibly useful tips in the video also. Thanks to bustacell for linking me to this install video.

Finally, thanks to everyone involved with making the HD textures available and playable online they really do improve the experience.

Didn't hurt my fps but probably depends on your hardware. I'd imagine any mediocre discrete graphics card (not integrated) can handle it without issue. I run 120fps @ 1440 on an rx 580 for reference but I expect much lower spec cards would also be fine.

snowguy ok thanks you , i run now on 165hz/fps , but with a geforce 750ti and an old pentium4 dual. If my pc runs stable i can run at 240+- stable with this hardware.

But theres something i wanted to talk you about and i heard a loth of players complaining about framedrops on the server . I first thought it was my unstable pc , but it looks like im not the only one. i don't know what the reason can be.

With unstable fps i mean , it feels like an old pc , it jumps from 165 to 80-90 etc , i don't know if the server has something to do with it , i would be weird to me but maybe.

From what I remember one frame drops issue is caused by that 1 on 1 Egypt map, I originally though it was just settings related but with 4 different GPU's(GTX 970, GT710, GT1030, GTX1050ti), 2 IGPUs(2nd and 3rd gen Intel), and 4 different PCs it's a common thing for people to complain about, no matter what render a player uses.

my ati 6570 has the same problem. But i heard trying out d3d11 . Still have to test it .

And the maps egypt , comboking and probably some more.

I used to get ~ 20-40fps on combo king using a Pentium D at 800x640 it is quite taxing on hardware compared to other maps. When I had a GTX 750Ti I don't remember having issues though, but I did have an I5 4400 instead of a Pentium 4 which is probably bottlenecking you.

ok , yea probably , i got a P4 G3250 @ 3.20Ghz. Maybe looking for a i5 or i7 .

Good thing you aren't playing anything modern because that CPU and GPU wouldn't even render the menu screens.

I would recommend(on the bases your gtx 750ti is one without a power connector) look out for something like a Dell Optiplex 7010, I got one with an I5 2400 for £20, similar HP machines around that time are good enough as well but If you want to add a good graphics card you will need a power adaptor(think I payed ~ £12) to put a better power supply in it because HP's proprietary power supply crap.

I've put an I7-2700k and a GTX 1050ti in one and I can play Quake Champions at 144fps 1080p at low settings.

These dells are the ones where they started to have USB 3.0 so it's a good way to spot the better ones.

AMD/Nvidia most bang for your buck but yes i5's systems are easy to find cheap if you are reusing that card since it will bottleneck before the i5 will.

okay its just a simple copy pasting of the texture packages, that was easy.

seems i can also use my own textures higher resolution then the maximum of 512. is this because of the 469c patch?

so i can make maps very detailed now?

Yes, it seems the limitation was mainly the renderer which is upgraded for us by patching to v469. They also say that v436 users could get out of memory crashes.

The only problem is that some players may never do the patch to v469 or upgrade their renderers for whatever reason.

snowguy okaythats nice, what would be the best texture size to use in maps? the highest i have seen is 4096 but is that a wise choice?
