I tried this once long ago. I definitely don't recommend it if you are playing against others online who are using a keyboard and mouse. The mouse is just SO much better for aiming with and I had to get creative with button binds to figure out some way to dodge. It really doesn't matter how long you practice with the joystick you just can't really be competitive using it against a keyboard and mouse player. If just playing against bots, it will be okay somewhat. If you are still interested I will see if I can find a backup, later today, from when I made my joystick binds (I used a ps2 controller).
A better option, in my opinion, would be to buy or make a lapboard and just use a keyboard and mouse on it from your sofa or whatever. Maybe search youtube for DIY lapboard / lapdesk for some ideas because the commercial versions seem a bit pricey.
