I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and my answer is that I actually care quite a bit about stats but I hate all of the tracking mechanisms built into UTStats. There's a lot to unpack.
I've definitely progressed as a player over a long period of time and I would much rather see my stats by year or being able to average out my last, say, 200 games to track my primary cares which are: caps, assists, flag kills, covers, flag returns, game winning % (I know it's problematic); basically all of the core CTF stats. I don't even really care about overall frags. I've never been a fan of the fact that the overall UTStats ranking is LIFETIME for a nick. It's also unfortunate that a person can come in and play like 20 or 30 AMAZING games and be on the top of the ranking chart forever.
I think it would be much more compelling of a friendly competition to see current year stats, or the average of a certain number of previously played games. I'd be very interested to see who the leaders might be in cap count over the past 12 months.
I raised all this with snowguy at one point and I just haven't had the time to visit it, but I may see if I can renew my intention of building some kind of KPI dashboard with raw SQL data to slice and dice key metrics in different and possibly more meaningful ways.
