Grapple

Ben a long time since I played UT99, 20+ years I guess. Grapple was not in game then, I have it bound to a key but have to manually switch back to weapon. Am I doing something wrong? I see people grapple and firing or grapple and weapon never leave s hand, how is this done please

In short, type this in console on the server:
mutate offhand <key>

ex) If you wanted to use the q key for grapple you would type:
mutate offhand q
