I think I mentioned before that I allow (but don't encourage) bouncing on the ESU servers. It would be nice if some consideration is given to others though: if people complain about it just play regularly, don't run up the score by bouncing so you end up with a 7-0 game for instance, and don't bounce full time everywhere or use macros for it.

In competitive league type matches and on many other servers it is considered to be illegal so make sure to follow the rules in other servers.

The video BearBeard posted above explains it. To start you need some extra speed via grapple, impact jump, or boost then with the jump bound to the mouse wheel you can spin it just before landing and your momentum will be conserved. To continue on the next landing it works best if you hold the walk key while doing your jumps/scrollwheel.

To be clear, this bouncing / bunny hopping is an engine bug. Whether you like it or not with some teamwork some cool trick runs can be accomplished. This old video shows some:

In fact nothing is wrong with that but by doing so, the server is empty in no-time, like yesterday. I cant remember which map it was, and you probably didnt notice the comments coz of yr bouncing, ppl were leaving. Its an easy win, ppl cant hit you and after that not even get near your flag. I was in specc btw.

It's just about sticking to one of the (unofficial) guidelines:

This was the only difference with respect to bouncing I saw between the previous speaker and me, that's why I guessed this to be the reason for his claim.

And something tells me, his position on the matter won't change. After all, right now bouncing ain't that big of a problem, despite a couple lamers ruining a match here and there.

OK I've started bouncing!

After I master the technique, I can seamlessly bounce to get the flag, and score pretty often.. Together with other fellow bouncers, this is implacable as the momentum speed can be doubled or trippled with a simple boost shot.

As expected, a lot of people started to complain about this, and calling me a cheater.. And I don't blame them.. I did the same when I saw bouncing for the first time. Also even after I learned that it is tolerated in the server, I felt bad whenever someone used it...

Yesterday I joined another server (don't remember which) where I wanted to use my newly acquired bouncing skills.. BUT somehow It didn't work. The first jump would happen, but then the second would fail every time, like the server would ground my char...

If you ask my opinion, is that bouncing should be stopped (technically) from the server (consequently allowed until a fix is in place)

Amazing... so... you keep on bouncing until the admin removes it from the server? You dont have to bounce waiting for it. You just keep doing it, until someone asks you to stop?

It wasnt an issue until you stayed (read: camp!) in base to make sure noone else grabs your flag after making a cap or two with bouncing!

I see sometimes some players bouncing while flag grabbing & carrying on w00tabulous-Fixed maps.
It reminds me another similiar technique: flag grabbing & carrying with piston-jumping, by Plushie: LINK.
In the both techniques it's often hard to hit the flag carrier, because they run out so fast.
But I don't care because it's funny, just like many other things like: boosting, camping, spawnkilling, deathmatching (fragging), friendly fire backshooting and so on. A no-rules server gives fun 😃 (excluding botters / cheaters of course, they always should be banned, and backshooting is nasty as well).

I don't understand what you want to mean by that, but yes, usually, after I cap 2 or 3 times and I'm winning then I tend to defend the base.. what's the problem with that?

Jacey Sorry but if you can't hit me while bouncing, I might have bad news for you.. As I can literally bounce in a straight very predictable and consistent path...
Bouncing is only effective if the enemy is not paying attention. in fact.. CALIGULA, Gonzalez, [LOU]Sasolle, Doc_Taylor, Wilc@t are the ones that almost always get me .. because they are indeed paying attention to defense...

Thanks.. I do my best to defend my flag! Should I just allow people to take it, so people don't get frustrated? xD

having that said.. if the game is like 3vs3 or 4vs4 I don't do bouncing ...

just learn how to bounce and that's it!

Bouncing is fine and fun the people whining about it just don't know how to do it is all, ngl on maps such as woot opel or any maps with 0 corner it's a bit unfair but still lol worthy

Inaccurate term, more accurate term would be: "not so often", because we sometimes do attack, it also depends on a map.
And as for Wildc@t, he has 2x more flag takes (from enemy base) per 20 min game, than each of you.

My point is that if someone is paying attention to their flag, they'll most probably hit me on a bouncing flag steal whereas if I would not do the bouncing I would be able to aim and fight back...
