Hello, problem with crash to desktop after 2-3 seconds in game

Hello, sorry for bad english, maybe im to newbie to know how to play server, im instaled UT99 1 hour ago, i played 30 minutes at other server with 3 ppl then i found this server capture the flag with more people. but after join game i always get crash to desktop after 3 seconds,, in console i see something like

and after that crash.. what im missing?

Hi Yazu, could you post a screenshot of the error that pops up on the screen after the crash? Or sometimes the error will be printed in the UnrealTournament.log file within the System folder of the UT install location but keep in mind the file gets overwritten when restarting the game. Without this crash log/call trace it will be difficult to say precisely what is causing the crash.

Are you already running the latest v469d patch and which operating system are you using?

i can instant join other servers, like 3 or 4 people online, but you know, i wanna play the most active one server. and this one just crashed after 3 seconds every time i join, like i see game 2 seconds, then crash to desktop without any warining or any message.

i tried use different graphic driver. im AMD user. game works but still crash this server, other servers work normal.
i try change all 3 audio setings. same results... atm i dont know what to do now, to many options and im blind, i cant see whats wrong with log too.

Thanks for the additional information. It looks like the game is crashing before it writes the error to the log file.

Do you get a critical error popup window with some information in it like is shown in this post?

The error message you get in that window should point to the cause of the issue and hopefully with that we can figure out a solution.

snowguy nope. nothin, zero additional error windows, just pure poof to desktop. i can start UT game after that again, and join server, 3 seconds watching how people play. i can walk and shot then poof again to pulpit, zero information why.

well i think its over xD Log dont say anything, no error pops up. only low pop servers left for me, damn 😃

Very strange, not sure why this is happening.

Could you try connecting to the DM server and see if you also get the crash there?

Yes sorry, I had already checked the log on the ctf server when you first posted here. The server log doesn't provide any information to help.

I'm guessing this might have something to do with the anticheat software on the London combogib server. The DM server is running an older version and I believe the other ctf server you have been playing on today is running an even older version.

Do you remember getting a window asking you to install the selected packages when you first attempted to join the comobgib ctf server today? From memory, it would have mentioned ACE and/or NPLoader.

And one final check could you try and connect to the normal weapons server and see if you get the same crash:

and yes. after i first time joined capture the flag server, additional window pop up with some thing to instal
if i remeber i click "instal all" and then "restart"

uninstal game fully then reinstal and try to join again and see what that "instal" window is?

Well, I was just making sure you actually saw that window and it seems you did see the window and did everything correctly.

I'm really not sure what could be done to fix the issue.

I don't know if maybe one of the files got corrupted during the install or some other issue but I wouldn't suggest reinstalling the whole game just yet. You could try this if you want:
Delete from your UT System folder all files that begin with the word ACE and also delete all files that begin with the word NPLoader. Then try to reconnect to the server.

Another option to try if the above doesn't work is to download the v469c patch and install it thereby downgrading your patch from v469d to v469c. This would be more of a troubleshooting step to see if there is an issue that exists in v469d that doesn't exist in v469c.

Either way these are just guesses as I'm really not sure of the actual cause of this one.

ok so first i reinstaled game.
after join the window with additional mods pops up. game dont kick me after 3 seconds, so i see players playing.
but i need to instal that things to play. so i instal all then recconect.
after reconect game shut down after 3 seconds.

next steps soon.

so i deleted ACE and NPL files, clear catche, and rejoin.
that window with mod update pop up again, "instal all" again " recconect" then after reconect game shut down after 3 secs again.

last change is downgrade this version to c. i will do this rn and post results

My advice to you is to download the game from here https://archive.org/details/unreal-tournament-goty-469-c-full-version.-7z, for example, and unzip it. Launch UnrealTournament.exe and check the result. If there is still a problem, then it’s already with your PC or Windows...

doubt its my problem, 2 hours ago my friend instal game too, and we want play together like 20+years ago. in your server he got same problem, game shut down after 3 sec, he can join other servers too, he have different PC different software, but after that he need to go out from home, so im alone to try fix this issue. but thx for help

this guide, its outdated? or just my UT GOG version might be failed?

Still not sure of the problem exactly but I don't see anything wrong with steps listed in that gog forum link so it must have something to do with the gog version you had 🤷

Anyway, thanks for posting here and trying all the stuff to get it working. Hope you and your friend can recapture some of the fun you had in the old days.

I never had any problems connecting, but last week I updated the game to the latest 496D version and I instantly got the same problem.

Went back to 496C and the problem went away.

I use a GOG version of the game (GOTY) and use OpenGL as driver (advanced openGL)

MAybe this info helps somehow

Just did a fresh install of the GOG version then patched in with 469D (windows exe install) had no problem joining the server. Did you use a different install method for the patch?

Windows 11, don't know if you are on 10 or not.

I also installed the GOG version + 469D .exe and also had 0 problems.

I think they have problems with the old UnrealTournament.ini and User.ini files (sometimes it needs to be deleted too)

Yazu uses Windows 8, judging by his log. And by the way, I see problems in the log (with the master server)...

I use GOG no problems but then again I haven't installed UT99 in years I just keep moving the folder from Windows install to Windows install. To put simply you never need to reinstall UT99 once you get it working. You can even copy your UT folder to a flash disk and play at work when no one is looking.
