I play at night mostly now so I'm not seeing to much trash talk but day players might be different.

skynet It's very hard to actually kick someone for his behavior.

What are the criteria for kicking someone? It's for everyone different i guess. For one it's the flaming, the other just for playing and moving well. That's why not all people kick. It's different as well when names are revealed of the ones who do the kicking, some servers have something like that. The anonymity disappears so noone kicks a player anymore.

I have no problem with removing anonymity, not even sure why that would be anonymous.
Usual suspects include saboteurs cosplaying as dEfEnsIvE campers or players that come and DM all match long and won't pick up their own flag even if its right next to them. But that's a separate topic 🙂

destro we talk for the same game ? Never heard 99 to have demo. I start play the first game Unreal and Unreal return to napali and short time after came UT 99. Start play online since 2001. Please trust me everywhere players was tolerant even with all 10k servers at this time. Have players who I know for maybe 17-18 years ago and still good friends, and I'm sure isn't just because of gender because I'm female.

annabella Holdup (Holdr) is from the demo community. There are a number of top players who play insta on passionate gaming who are from the demo community as well. I can't tell you what you've experienced but from playing on insta servers people have always called names or worse. I'm glad you've had a better experience than I did.

The demo version of Unreal Tournament 99 (UT99) was released on September 15, 1999. This demo was about two months before the final game was released. I had a 28.8k internet connection out on the farm at that time and I could barely hold my own with a avg of 400-500 ping on U.S. servers. No newnet or anything to compensate for most of it. Didn't want to go to the full version because of lag. That and Coret facility is still one of the best maps ever.

I don't remember a demo for this, maybe there isn't because back in 97 most people myself included bought it for the offline play. Way back in the early 2000 people were already playing the full version for free since there is no cdkey or login.

I guess I came up with 97 from the documentary thing I watched on YouTube but even in 99 people were clueless to online gaming. I paid like 55 or 60 bucks at Circuit City or Best Buy even back then new games weren't cheap. I played mine til the end and then it sat til it go thrown out. Since I paid then It's cool that I've been pirating it since 2017.

jerc Yup like you I've had multiple copies of Ut99. I got a few from Ebay when my brother used to play too and since it was no install key we could share a copy for both of us. Half the time you would max out on ping and people would get really mad if you killed them while they were shooting your after image while your connection was trying to catch up to the server. Running flags was the easiest thing because you would skip all the time when you took off the jump pad overhead. This area didn't even have cable or dsl until 2007 and being able to shoot people in one shot was a game changer. I remember trying Tubby's Insta server (they used to run fatman mod), Tammy's, and the 44oz turbo gib. I stuck with the latter.

People talking about 2003 but the community was established the day the demo dropped.

UT2003 is the first one I played online but I never needed a demo. I did play on demo server or 2 Citadel I think was the CTF map for 2003 and 04. One of the mappers should recreate it for 99.
