Hello Snowguy,

I have heard that your server is running an outdated version of ace. Is it possible to update ACE to version 13 which I think is the latest. version. Also you should consider using newnet for comboinstagib because it runs so much smoother and fixed a lot of bugs that are caused by zp.

ACE 13 is still in testing as far as I'm aware. I will update as soon as it is publicly released.

The London server's CPU isn't fast enough to run newnet tickrates without reducing the max players significantly. I'm expecting the host will update the hardware at some point because it has been 7+ years now without an upgrade and the usual upgrade path is around 5 years in most data centers. In fact, the same host, in its other data centers, have upgraded 2 or more years ago. London is just behind unfortunately. I would definitely like to be running newnet though.

Don't forget it's probably a server CPU with a lower frequency not optimized for games, some pug servers use dedicated servers with strong cpu cores with power management disabled and other tweaks.

There's an ACE testing group on oldunreal's discord, but that's more for server admins rather than players to test newer version on their servers.

Pretty sure Anthrax said the code base for ACE is bigger than UT itself, that's the scale of ACE.

@snowguy If upgrading the server is tied to financial reasons, make donations possible and we'll chime in. If that's already possible, let me know how.
I have no problem donating monthly if that means keeping the server and overall playing experience on a higher level.

Like Ooper said the London server has an AMD EPYC CPU that only runs at 2.3Ghz. Faster core speeds weren't as readily available in data centers when I set up the London server. The Amsterdam and New York servers both run a Ryzen 9 CPU at 4.3Ghz which isn't specifically designed for use in servers and is around 6 years newer tech. We just have to start playing on the Amsterdam or New York servers if we want newnet.

snowguy imho if you can't update your server to newnet because the server specs are too dogshit and wont allow it or w.e the reason is then the best thing is to do is just take this server down and get a better server host that has the specs needed to use newnet. People here are willing to help with donations on that so i don't see why this would be a problem. Your server runs on 40 TR which is sort of ridiculous to have it that low and its using ZP. Recently nobody uses ZP anymore because its filled with tons of bugs and allows players to use exploits that shouldnt even be allowed. You 1000% need newnet in this server or even IG+. Some people are saying updating to the latest ACE (v 1.3m) doesn't help but hear this the same guy who was aliased as madmax2 and was caught botting here tried to do the same shit on the UnrealKillers public server and since their server had the latest ACE v1.3m he was kicked/banned immediately without getting the chance to ruin any games there. Im not saying every cheater will get caught by the latest ACE but the losers who still cheat on your server are probably using outdated cheats, I'm sure the latest ACE should be able to kick a few of them till they have to figure out ways to bypass it. I've also spoke to multiple admins from different communities about the cheaters who found ways to bypass your bans here and the first thing they told me was updating ACE is the first thing step you should be doing afaik your server is running an old ACE v 12 I believe which needs to be updated asap. This is why im promoting every pub server to use ACE v 1.3m since Passionate Gaming and Unrealkillers currently run this version and so far I have not seen anyone blatantly botting on those servers as they do on yours. I read above you said you've been waiting for 7+ years for the host to upgrade the hardware on your server so you can finally update it to newnet. Yeah, that won't happen even in another 10 years your best bet is to just get a new and improved server and set it up for combogib and use newnet instead of zp.

The point is, updated hardware is already available to us in Amsterdam. It only takes a few of us to pick a time to play there regularly and others will start to join in time. This is exactly how the London server became popular.

snowguy the only way players will migrate from your london combogib server to the amsterdam one is if you shut down the london server and they have no where else to play. Nobody is magically gonna a populated server that they play on daily for years just to migrate to another server. Also consider the NAs will have higher ping to amsterdam servers which is why imo london is the best location. Instead of waiting for the hardware to get updated on the london server why not just get a new london server with updated hardware instead.

If A'dam gets players i would play there , it runs better for me anyway. Its a good idea snowguy but we tried it before , and it didn't worked out , maybe we can try it again.

Wacky idea but jerc has a point. Rename London to Amsterdam and Amsterdam to London, boom problem solved.

There is no need for updating ACE. First, nobody is cheating and second, if someone wants to cheat, they can do it even with ACE 2001. If billion dollar companies can't prevent cheaters, you think a small team that works for free can?
NEWNET is a good idea, can't you switch to another host?

This same guy aliased as madmax2 keeps bypassing the bans so its not like he's ever going to get perma banned here. If your the same Skirmish that used to join 3v3ictf pugs in Unreal Heavens and Gibblets then I expected you to be smarter and not make dumb statements like this.

There is another guy thats currently botting who uses an american VPN and moves like a complete noob and plays about every night when I join that server. @Ooper said his name is Cowboy or something like that and 100% he's using a modified bot that he probably coded himself to try to look like human aim, only complete un experienced idiots will not be able to see what he's doing. I have yet to stream his POV and post it here because he hides from me when I join this server. But again don't post statements like "nobody is cheating" because reading that just angered me when I witnessed these guys casually botting about every night in the server. They've been here for months/years botting and nothing will be done about it. In other communities like PG/UnrealKillers they are auto kicked/banned by the latest ace before their bots can get to work which at least is some form of protection and is 100% better than keeping a shitty old ACE that would allow about every cheat to work.
