  • Hi there 😊

  • If I remember correctly, some servers have a type of spawn protection that let users spawn killing for some time before the warning appears, saying something like "keep doing this and you're to be killed" or something like that.

I think getting killed after a warning after a reasonable time is a fair trade, enough to protect the flag taker, a ban could be too excessive.

Here is the chronologic description of the quote "It is better to live one day as a lion/tiger than 100 years as a sheep" from the oldest known quote to the present day:

      • Around 500 BCE: In ancient Greece, the philosopher Heraclitus wrote: "One day as a lion is better than 100 years as a sheep" (this is not an exact quote, but the idea is similar). Heraclitus was one of the first philosophers to write about the importance of living in the present and that it is better to live a short life with passion than a long life without purpose.

      • Around 300 BCE: In ancient China, the philosopher Laozi wrote: "" (yī tiān zhī hǒu, bǐ qiān nián zhī yáng), which means "It is better to live one day as a tiger than 100 years as a sheep". Laozi was the founder of Taoism and his writings had a significant impact on Chinese philosophy and culture.

      • Around 100 CE: In ancient Rome, the philosopher Seneca the Younger wrote: "Mieux vaut vivre un jour comme un lion que cent ans comme un mouton", which means "It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep". Seneca was one of the most important Stoic philosophers and his writings had a significant impact on Western philosophy.

      • Around 1500 CE: In Europe, during the Renaissance, quotes about lions and sheep began to appear in literature and philosophy. For example, the philosopher and writer Michel de Montaigne wrote: "Mieux vaut vivre un jour comme un lion que cent ans comme un mouton".

      • Around 1800 CE: In Europe, during the Romantic era, quotes about lions and sheep began to appear in literature and poetry. For example, the poet and writer Lord Byron wrote: "It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep".

      • Around 1900 CE: In Europe, during the fascist era, quotes about lions and sheep began to appear in politics and ideology. For example, Benito Mussolini wrote: "È meglio vivere un giorno come un leone che cento anni come un agnello".

      • Present day: Quotes about lions and sheep are used in various contexts, from motivation and inspiration to politics and ideology. However, the exact origin of these quotes is unknown, and their authorship is attributed to different people and eras.

Note that quotes about lions and sheep have been used in different contexts and eras, and their meaning and interpretation can vary depending on the context and culture.

      • I'm pretty sure I wrote about this before but I'll write it again here. To start with the whole reason I started a server in the first place was because I was tired of playing the same maps all the time. That's why I have tested approximately 2000 maps and have so many on the server. While some of them aren't the best they were the good ones of those that were tested.

I have always had plans to remove the maps that didn't end up being that great but it is difficult to decide which to remove and time consuming if I don't immediately remember the map I'm considering for removal.

We also talked about increasing the repeat limit higher than 5 before and there seemed to be quite a few players that would rather just vote what they want instead of having it locked out. I think what might usually happen is there is a large player turnover after 3 to 5 maps have been played and you then get 10 new players who all want to play w00t and weren't there for it the last time it was played. Ask yourself how many maps in a row do you stay for? If it is more than 5, then for you the repeat limit should probably be increased. I'm not against trying it or even having a poll for it to see what people want.

Anyway, I have a new map update ready for the server which adds 7 new maps 🙂

But I did actually take this thread as my motivation to remove 26 maps this time. I will remove more as time goes on. If your favorite map was removed just let me know and I can add it back in.

I will update the London server with these map changes the next time I catch it without players. If you want a sneak peek at the new maps you can check them out on the New York & Amsterdam combogib ctf servers.

lol how exactly is EU your enemy?🤣 EU has no firepower whatsoever and is basically trying to mind its own business few idiots excluded and supports woke shit but that came from US in the first place. If anything Russia should worry you in terms of having good relationship with as its your neighboor.

      • I also think bouncing is overpowered and makes the games less fun to play. It's not about being easy or hard to hit, it's about having the chance to hit a bouncing flag carrier in the first place. Without bouncing on, players always get a chance to recover and attempt to kill the flag carrier a couple times over. This is what makes attacking in CTF fun for me, it's very tricky to actually run with the flag. When someone is bouncing with the flag, you get spawnkilled once, or you are out of position once then you have zero chance. It is just too fast.

I'm a avid grappler which makes for a relatively good leveller for players without top aim like myself. It allows me to get to the flag without having to go on a rampage. However, there is a reason you cannot grapple whilst carrying the flag, it would make it drastically easier & too fast to get out of enemy territory...same as bouncing IMO. Hell, I would be in favour of having similar rules for bouncing. Bounce all you want but just not whilst carrying the flag.

I also don't think it's right to flame players who are using bouncing as they are still following the rules, they just have a different take which is fine. Ann0ying has always seemed like a pretty chill dude to me. It's too small a community to get at each others throats.

      • Hey m8,

        1. I lost that game 7-6.

        2. I didn't mute you, I just /say mutate mute utnl to be honest to make you think that I've muted you, so you could stop the same old story about bouncing.. it worked 😃

Nevertheless, you were kicking my ass whenever I try to bounce out of your base.. (I'm jumping on a straight line.. not that hard to get me).

I guess you're mad because, once you face a bouncer, you know that you have to pay attention to defense, and just not rush to get the flag...

I see more and more people bouncing.. And actually it is a very good "weapon" against very skilled players, because of what's stated in the previous paragraph...

And yes.. I'm a pretty bad player... My aim is just not good enough.. sorry for that

        • Jacey UTStats marks players with country flags. He was under an American and Netherlands flag while playing as Arsch>. Unless he flew between the three countries in a few hours he was more than likely using a VPN to attempt to block his IP address and avoid being IP banned.

Also a player doesn't magically go from 10% accuracy to almost 70% accuracy over night. There's almost no one who can shoot 70% accuracy at an extended clip for 20 minutes, against live players and is considered a legit player. Even if you were able to do this, it's highly suspect just seeing that accuracy alone for one game. Not to mention there's video evidence of him snapping back and forth to targets which is one of the most blatant ways of cheating. It's hard to know if Bartek is Arsch or if it really was his brother on his computer. All there is to go by is the IP logged with the bot came from Barteks IP address and for that he needs to take a little responsibility. If he's banned for a bit or forever it's to the admins discretion.

        • This guy also team sabotages a lot combo boosting teammates and stops playing when his team is losing.

        • Maybe his bro changed his password and he cant login.. 🤣

        • Alright, let's try Buggie's UserMute mutator. Here is the release page for more info:
          https://ut99.org/viewtopic.php?p=128337

I've installed it on the London Combo server. If you open console or use tab for quick console you can then type mutate mute and it should open the following window where you can highlight a player name and click the Mute button if you no longer want to receive chat from that player. You could also make a keybind for the mutate mute command if you find yourself using it a lot.

          • newjack While we're on this subject, I think you can remove most of the maps since people only vote the same maps over and over again 🙄

          • Online fps is limited to your netspeed, by default you can't set above 20000 while connected to a server as it will go back down to 20000, you would have to typically disconnect from a server use the netspeed command then re-join the server for it to take effect.

To easily allow higher netspeed limits while connected to servers without having to disconnect, set netspeed, then reconnect, you have to edit a line in your UnrealTournament.ini that is located in your /UT/System/ Folder.

Example FPS limits via netspeed (formula is netspeed / 64)

            • 20000 (default LAN) 312.5fps
            • 25000 390fps
            • 40000 625fps
            • 50000 781fps

            The INI Edit Instructions

            • Open UnrealTournament.ini
            • Find the section [IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]
            • Now find the line MaxClientRate=20000
            • Change the value to something higher for example 100000 example: MaxClientRate=100000
            • Save the file

The netspeed command is simply: netspeed 25000 in the system console.

Next time you start UT you should be able to set higher netspeeds while connected to a server, do note that some servers that use IG+/Newnet force you to 25000, if you are playing gametypes like monsterhunt settings the netspeed higher will make the gameplay less laggy(not fps wise but how often the monsters and other players update)

If you want the highest possible FPS on a non ARM PC, use the Linux-AMD64 build of UT as it has a significant performance advantage compared to windows' 32bit build.

            Note for Demos

            • Higher fps limits will significantly increase the size of demo files.
          • I discussed it with him and he assured me he wouldn't do that again so I lifted the ban for now. That is why he is back on and why I mentioned that the duration of the ban was to be determined.

          • Jacey The other day we all kicked him and he came back almost straight away, then we kicked him a second time in the same match then he couldn't join, think he might have two different pcs(or connections). Normally you have to wait for a map change to be able to join the server again.
