@snowguy Ok it worked. Took me a while to find the actor to add. I basically had to load the actor in order to see it in the actors panel. I can use this if you want and fix the other maps... Let me know if you want this to happen. I can change both the maps I converted to SnowUT99.u maps. I like this one better anyway. How ever Doesn't seem like I can make the whole map snow with this file. Only smaller areas. Even know there is a option for radius. I have tried to change the 512 area to 1500 and it doesn't seem to expand the radius. How ever I can add a few in the map in the areas where we want snow 🙂

Edit: Its even a better file. It seems more realistic. The snow sticks to the ground for a second.........

Edit2: Ok it does work. I set it to 1500 Radius and bam it worked.

    Awesome, that would be great if you could update the maps to use this SnowUT99 version instead. I had some trouble setting the radius with admin set commands, when I played with it the other day, for some reason too. It seemed to intermittently work in that case.

    Just one note to be careful and not add too many as it will affect the server's performance even though this one is designed to reuse actors for that very reason. Possibly reducing the maxdrops could help reduce the load on the server.

    In my testing, which probably isn't exactly transferable to other CPUs, the server seemed to incur a 3-5% increase in CPU utilization for each additional snowActor with its default settings. (maxdrops 150 IIRC). That was on an i7 4790k for what it's worth. For me anyway, subtle snow in various areas throughout the map would be fine. Thanks for taking the time to work on this again.

    Rock on try this one out. I made it to tell what side was red and blue as well. Also added some ice on the ledge for more effect. I do not want to change these maps to much without permission. I still feel weird working on someone else's maps without asking.

    This is using Your new file and working great. Only added one actor and made the size fit the map. Works great on my end. I will change the Docks map tomorrow I am going to watch the fights tonight lol

      Also, I am working on a pretty kool map with a reactor in the middle. Hope to have some images real soon. I will be making a winter version as well. Seems we are on a kick right now with snow 🙂

      There was also a little problem with the acient-pyramidemap , i thinks its called , Some people only had 50-60fps. Unplayable. Maybe if you could check that out , to see if you also got that problem.

        Great! I tried it in a practice session and it looks really good now with the new snow. Also, thanks for adding the base markings.

        I'm glad you are redoing them with the new snow. I checked the dependencies of all the other winter maps that are on the server and none of them use either snow.u file. I removed all versions except the all caps SNOW.U on the test server and now when I voted liandri-winter the server wouldn't load the map. Redoing them with the new snow file will avoid any future problems for anyone. I really appreciate you fixing this. Looking forward to your new map also.

        Weird, I don't ever remember having frame drops on that CTF-Ancient-Egypt map but it is a little rough around the edges and people don't generally like it much. I only put it on the server because I played it on a popular ctf-server a long time ago. Wouldn't be a big loss to remove this map I guess. I'll add it to the list to remove at some point.

          snowguy ok , yea sbt and some others had the same drops , indeed very weird. Maybe best to remove like you said , its not really a good map 🙂

            I can take a look at this map. If it's an old map and everyone likes it and I can't find the owner maybe I can tweak it and make it better 🙂

            Found a few problems, like one thing there was a Blue flag floating in space lol. Also you can fall off the side of the map. There is really a lot of things that can be improved. But really people like this plan map lol. It was Released in 2004 I assume finding the creator is out of the question. If you like this map, I can redesign it to better fit 2023. Lert me know.

                Not really , its a very open map , with a bit of snow 🙂 i can't remember those lights.

                Here is the map but I'm not so sure it caused a problem. Thanks for the discussion about dynamic lights though.
                Now, I finally found out why I get frame drops on the 1on1-egypt map. Those white lights in the middle decoration thing must have been doing it. All good with dynamic lights turned off.

                And here is the modified version of the XMasLights I'm using. I just changed it so it wouldn't put lights on the ground because players where constantly complaining about it obstructing their view of other players. A little late for anyone that wants to run this version on their server but at least it is still in time for xmas 🙂

                On that ancient-egypt map, since there is no ceiling, the majority of the lights are just way up in the air so no one notices them. I don't think enough lights spawn on that map to cause a problem but who knows.

                I always have dynamic lights off, and I still get the frame drops on Eygpt map, I did notice when I looked at it the past that those white things are network replicated for some reason, I'm under the impression that is not necessary for stuff like
                that, and the frame drops happen every so often(several times a minute) like something builds up and gets to a state where it causes the heavy fps dip for a second or so and performance is somewhat normal for a little while and it repeats.

                It's a common problem on that map I hear players complain about, I've had 5-6 different pcs the last year(various states) or so and the problem is consistent no matter the gpu or cpu. CPUS: I5-2400(2 different ones), I7 2700k, i5-3470, I7 6700k, Ryzen 5600, GPUS: GT710, GTX 970, GT 1030, GTX 1050ti, and an AMD gpu I had for a few days that I can't remember the model as I re-sold it because I couldn't get 144hz out of it.

                Well, My RIG frames around 1500 or better on this map. I do see a ton of problems on the map. however.
                I will be release CTF-Tunnels tonight for X-Mass and I will remake this map for you guys. I will not call it the same name though. I will totally rebuild the map and add some 2023 textures and tweaks.

                  I didn't want to waste your time on this ancient-egypt map, people aren't really fond of it anyway. Appreciate you offering to work on it though.

                    You're all good it's a busy time of year. I have added a lot more to the map for final release.
                    I am having a small issue with bot paths on it. Red seems to always win lol. Only fix I can come up with is to take out the bot paths in the lower and upper sections. I have a small hall with lifts in the roof and tunnels in the basement. They seem to get stuck in those. I am very close though. I just wanted to see if the bright lights were a bother for some players.
                    I will release it to the wild tonight some time. Can always send out a V2 I guess.
